School and Classroom News

This coming Monday the grade 3s will be making "A Chair With Flair", as part of our unit on structures. We REALLY need cardboard to complete the project. Cereal boxes etc. are the perfect weight of cardboard. Please go through your recycle and send all the cardboard you can find.

Many thanks.

"If you have ever made a paper airplane, followed a recipe, stitched a puppet or made a sandwich, you have created something-you have put things together to make something." (Norma Kennedy from Kids Talk About Building). Now it's time to tell someone else how to make something.

On line: Use the computer to write a paragraph that describes how to make something. Remember that procedural writing includes all the steps in the correct order. Use order words like first, then, next, etc. Make sure that you don't forget any steps. Use your imagination to come up with something to give the instructions for (ie. getting ready for school, making a paper airplane).

Reading Response- Read this beginning to the story "The New Calf". When you are finished reading, complete the reading response in your teacher's link. "Alison watched as her father walked through the pasture looking at each cow. He wasn't at all afraid. Alison stood behind a post on the far side of the fence. The cows were bigger than she was, much bigger. She didn't like the way they looked at her."

Continue to do at least 15 min. of reading each night.

Math Homework On Line: Go to the thatquiz.com link under Mathematics. Practice multiplication and division found under Integers/ Arithmetic. Try to do a minimum of two ten minute sessions at some point in the week. Worksheet: Making Pizza Part 1 and 2 and Grade Three Weekly Math Check Up
